Two seconds...

We finally have word on what caused the F-35A engine fire on June 23rd.

Two seconds worth of hard maneuvering well within design parameters caused "microfractures" which led to "excessive rubbing", which led to overheating, which led to parts flying through jet fuel.

Pratt & Whitney is promising to cover the cost of the fix, but one has to wonder what sort of timeframe or design changes will result.
